Monday Mindset: Farewell to Summer — Ready or Not — School Days for ALL of Us!
Ready or NOT — here comes SEPTEMBER! Back to routines — School Days — for ALL of us!
Closing in on our farewell to summer — like William Faulkner writes: “The air thin and eager like this, with something in it, sad and nostalgic and familiar.”
Maybe you’re ready or maybe you’re not just quite ready to let go... not quite ready for the routine of the 'school days'...
Hard question — are you, am I, walking our talk? For example: it’s back to school for kiddos — they are being 'asked' (or told, right?!) to make a big shift — regardless of where they 'are' mentally and/or physically. Ready or not:
Prepare the night before — lay your clothes out (for school & any extracurricular activities), get to bed a bit earlier...
Put your phone away, cut back on all screen time...
Follow the schedule (class at this time, lunch at this time, recess at this time — if they even have recess)...
Be sure and pay attention...
Be kind, be courteous, be on time...
Help others...
Control your emotions throughout...
At your extracurricular activities, be a great teammate and example...
Work hard...
Do your best...
DID 'WE' REMEMBER TO SUGGEST TO THEM TO —
Treat others as they want to be treated...
Pause and breath from time to time...
To enjoy the transition!!
That it's okay to shake their heads and laugh with someone or even themselves...
About being tired and a 'bit' overwhelmed...?!
They are there to learn (and not to already know everything)
Enjoy the learning...
Most importantly, did we remind them to ask for help if needed?
The truth is — our children don’t do what we SAY — they do what we LIVE. ALL (children and others) 'LISTEN' by observation. Our words are either considered important or meaningless — depending upon our actions — 'walking the talk' or not!
SO — LET'S WALK THE TALK! NO MATTER HOW OLD WE ARE: (Yes, even if we are just beginning — give yourself & others grace & begin today).
Prepare for the next day — lay our clothes out. — go to bed at a reasonable time — put our phones away — follow our schedules (whether we want to or not), be kind and courteous, help others, be on time, control our emotions, work hard, do our best — AND REMEMBER to treat others the way we want to be treated. Pause throughout the day and breathe — enjoy the transition —shake our heads and laugh w/ someone or ourselves about being tired, overwhelmed, we are here to learn, to enjoy learning and ask for help when needed!!!! Let's walk our talk so that we may trust ourselves — lead ourselves in order to be of help to others. For as long as we are 'here', we are here to learn and help one another...
Let's have a wonderful 'school year'. Thank You, Father.
